The 2016/17 Dirt Crits series is now in summer recess after five rounds of enthusiastic and entertaining riding on the reconfigured track behind the Baco. Feedback on the new course has been positive, with lots of flowy corners added and the classic rock garden retained.
In the junior division there are only three riders who have competed in all rounds to date, with two of these being separated at the top of the leader board by just one point – George Stevens has the lead with 33 points, while Sam Williams has brought some BMX skills to the singletrack and has amassed 32 points to date. Thomas McKimmie holds down third position on 25, with positions four to seven separated by just three points.
In the Open category Emma Jackson (Bendigo) is relishing the fast flowing corners and has posted consistent results to be leading the field with 78 points. Rob Hole holds down second place on 77 points (from just four rounds), while early series leader Tony Russell has dropped off the pace slightly but still sits in third on 69 points.
Club young gun Dylan McKenna has ridden just about every variant of mountain bike available, including an E-bike, but has displayed strong form on most of them to hold fourth spot with 68, just shading Daniel Jackson (67) and club veteran Trefor Prest (65). A special mention goes to Lachlan Warren who has competed in both the junior and the open events for most of the season.
