Secretary of the Castlemaine Rocky Riders, Carrie Edney, has recently been recognised as the Mountain Bike Australia (MTBA) Club Volunteer of the Year in Victoria, in a series of achievement awards announced at the conclusion of the 2017 XCC National Titles in Queensland.

Carrie joined the Castlemaine Rocky Riders committee in 2013 and has served as the Secretary for the past three years.  In this capacity Carrie has been instrumental in the management of key mountain biking events in central Victoria, including the inter-club Interwinter Series, the summer Dirt Crits series and the monthly social rides.

Carrie has a particular interest in increasing female participation in the sport of  mountain biking and has significantly grown local patronage for juniors and women in the local area.  Among the activities that she has promoted and arranged are skills days, including women and junior specific clinics.  She has also been actively marketing the sport via social media, particularly the Castlemaine Women Cycling Facebook page.  Carrie also leads a number of rides of differing lengths and difficulties to encourage cycling participation across mtb and road disciplines.

Through her co-ordination, leadership, marketing and follow-up Carrie is ensuring that more local community members, particularly women, gain enjoyment and exercise through mountain biking and socialising.  Our congratulations to Carrie on this well deserved recognition of her efforts by MTBA.
