Rider Profile – Nick Lewis

Name – Nick Lewis

Profession – environmental consultant transitioning to full time Dad

Uphill or Downhill? Bit of both…

Most epic day on a bike? Not as fancy as my last profile, but a last minute call by Nick Byrne to ride Muckleford trails from Castlemaine. Knocked out all the trails, then a mixed grill and pots at the Newstead pub. Bonked big time on the ride home, needing to stay in granny gear all the way home. Still have the sun burn scars on my lower back where my jersey rode up…

I’m currently riding… less often that I would like (maybe as a full time Dad I’ll get out on my Rocky Mountain Thunderbolt a bit more frequently?!)

Favourite trails (other than Castlemaine) – North East Vic are great (Beechworth, Yack, Falls, Mount Beauty & Bright). Rode Tathra recently, loved the ‘old skool’ feel of the trails, and finishing at the beach is always good.

If I wasn’t mountain biking I’d be… a little bit grumpier

One day I’ll ride… North Island of New Zealand (yep, still the same aspiration as my first profile 6 years ago!)

When I head out for a ride I never leave without… my helmet. Beyond that it is quite variable what comes (or gets forgotten)

My race highlight? Redesdale 24 hour with a great bunch of blokes… 2 hour plus full team lap at 1am was a unique experience ….

What is in your backpack? a tube, hopefully a pump, a few random tools that were useful in the nineties which I never really knew what to do with
